LEADERS OF THE NEW SCHOOL 2009 For the first time in 15 years members of the Group Leaders of the New School met together. The groups original DJ, Public Enemies legendry DJ Johnny Juice, Cutmonitor Milo, Dinco D and C Boogie Brown aka Charlie Brown got together for what turned out to be a surprise meeting. Organized by Long island pioneer DJ Big D Higgs. We Talked about pre Leaders of the new school, making of the band, there experiences and their love for this culture. It wasn't long before Johnny Juice started dropping beats. which then led on to a mic session with Dinco D, Milo and Charlie Brown. It was an amazing experience to be able to be part of this. I remember back in 1991 at the Hummingbird in Birmingham City watching them Perform alongside British Group Hijack. For me probably the best show I've ever been too. Both groups had an out standing stage performance. Although at this moment I'm not sure if the group are reforming. This event was a first step in rebuilding history. PSYCHO LES : THE BEATNUTS While in NYC I was looking to try and finish filming on the project THE MEN & THEIR MUSIC. For some time I've been trying to get the Beatnuts. I missed them back in 2002. So i was glad when Psycho Les agreed to meet up. He picked us up on 7th Ave 37th st. Where we then drove to the village. A1 Records the destination. Where funny enough Les took on the KOTB challenge to find breaks within a budget of $40. Accompanied by his son, who played selector. We then went across the street to shoot the film. DJ JOHNNY JUICE Joined by my friend Damion we traveled to Long Island to meet the Legendry DJ Johnny Juice, who as we all know contributed a great deal to the Public Enemy Cataloge. I had been Talking to Johnny for some time on the social networking sites, and i figured he had to be part of the project THE MEN AND THEIR MUSIC. Not only is Juice one of old School DJs who's history is long and deep in the bronx, he's built a solid legacy battling not just through DMC competitions but through the racks of Long Islands DJs, block & House parties. When is comes to music, Juice has been involved in some of the best music sessions, like Scenario. There not much that he don't know bout music. He's not just digging for beats but he his a music historian. THe fact that he could rebuild P.E's Louder than a Bomb within 90 min's, that's including sampling all the elements from the source and arranging and doing all the cuts and mixing it down is testament of the man. MIKEY D With out a doubt one of my favorite mc's of all time. Long time Friend finally after many years we got to meet up in NYC. As one of Paul C's original acts. We shot some film for the project THE MEN & THEIR MUSIC. Special Thanks has to go out to Mikey D for giving us a queens tour!! For some time Mikey D had been telling me about his protoge KUDA. a 12 year old MC that Mikey D had discovered. At First i though maybe KUDA would be good by todays poplular standards, what a mistake. nothing could prepare me for what i was to hear. To the drums of impeach the president, was this kids whos skills, delivary came right out the golden era. Seriously KUDA is a someone to watch. When people talk about that footage of biggie on the street at 17years old, think that but 12.
KEY FIGURES & UNDERSTANDING When i started King of the beats 2. I heard this amazing M.C on mypsace. The M.C goes by the name UNDERSTANDING. Boy if you ain't already heard. You need to check him out! over the last 2 years we have built a good friendship. I have to say i was so proud that He blessed my track on the film. So when this trip came about, i had to link up with the man. We met up in the village. Deemo is one of those guys who's got a sick knowledge of m.c Lyrics and radio shows. I know that he soon to be releasing an album produced by none other than Queens Legend Dr Butcher. I can honestly say you will be definitely hearing more material from us both!!
DJ PRIORITY : MTB NEW JERSEY KING OF THE BEATS 2 featured a very talented producer from New Jersey. His name DJ Priority, I had met him on myspace. 1 week before we left out for NYC i contacted him to let him know that iwas in town and that I wanted to meet up with him. Luckily i was able to make it to his event MEET THE PRODUCERS, A battle where four producers bring their beats to impress not just the crowd but line of judges who for this event is none other than illmind. I don't do speeches lol. But Priority got to thank you and your crew Ment Plus and Back 45. If your over NYC please support this event and holla at my man
BUC AND THE PREACHER First night in NYC, in Brooklyn we got to meet Buc and the Preacher originally from the group E.S.P the group have played a big part in Brooklyn's history. The Preacher who back then was known as Professor Paul was one of the dopest DJ's that the borough produced. We had a brief meeting, but a really positive one. Elliot is a cool guy, who's got a hell of knowledge about Brooklyn Heritage. In fact he suggested that in future we could do a project together. A series of short films.

KING OF THE BEATS Founded back in 1999. Film maker Pritt Kalsi embarked on his project THE KING OF THE BEATS. For over 20 years he has been Involved in Hip hop Culture, looking for those breaks beats and samples. In tradition of DJs Such as Jazzy Jay, Marley Marl, Premier and Pogo, Pritt founded what was to be the blueprint for this thing called beat battles. Before the 1999 film King of the beats there were no beat battles. His aim is too keep that vinyl culture alive. From the days when Djs would look for those breakbeats for a $1, turning them into some of the most classic records we all love to this day. The challenge..... Each artist has a budget of £20 to go find records. They have to find the drums, samples and music. They then have to return to their studio and build a beat. Doesn’t sound too complicated? You only have one day to complete the whole task. Pioneers, Legends, established and up and coming artists all share this platform. See how they take on the task, choice of records, how they work in the studio, learn some of their production techniques. Most importantly they all share one common bond, their love for good quality real hip hop music.
